Outgrower: Meet Sok Na
July, 2023Sok Na, who has lived her whole life in the village where she was born, supports her family of five despite limited education and work options. Before joining the KJC outgrower program in July 2023, she grew vegetables at home, earning only around US$262 per month, while her husband worked as a labourer and their eldest son contributed from his job in Siem Reap. A US$2,000 loan through Dana Asia’s Outgrower program plus training enabled her to establish a small-scale poultry enterprise. With an 82% average survival rate to point-of-sale, her business has increased her household income by 22%. Trained in feeding, water management, biosecurity, and disease prevention, Sok Na now hopes to expand her livelihood through Dana Asia’s vegetable-growing project, aiming to grow crops year-round and further improve her family’s income and stability.

“I joined the outgrower program because I can’t do heavy labour anymore, but I still want to earn a steady income. Raising chickens gives me hope and helps support my family.”
