Scholarships: Meet Bridget
February, 2024Bridget, 19, lives with her mother in Poblacion Pilar, Bohol, a small, close-knit town where most families earn modest incomes. Her mother is the sole breadwinner, working as an encoder at the local Rural Health Unit, earning about PHP 9,000 per month to support their two-person household. Despite these financial challenges, Bridget is determined to pursue her dream of becoming a doctor. She is currently in her second year of a Diploma in Midwifery at the University of the Philippines Manila School of Health Sciences, Palo Branch, where she began studying in September 2022. The cost of education, particularly the expenses for hospital and community deployment, posed a significant challenge for her family. Receiving a Dana Asia scholarship has been life-changing, allowing her to continue her studies without worrying about financial constraints. She has been able to buy essential study materials, such as an iPad for exam preparation, and focus fully on her learning and community work. Passionate about healthcare and driven by a desire to give back, Bridget hopes to complete her studies in 2025 and one day serve her community as a doctor.

“The scholarship has lightened my financial load. It allows me to focus on my studies and community duties without worrying about my expenses, and it gives me hope that I can achieve my dream of becoming a doctor and helping my family and community in return.”
