Scholarships: Meet Sopith
October, 2025Sopith was born and raised in Khnar Por Commune, Siem Reap Province. She lives with her parents and two siblings in a modest household where her father and brother earn around USD 250–300 per month driving tuk-tuks to support the family. The main sources of income in her rural community are farming and labour work, making higher education difficult to afford. Despite these challenges, Sopith is determined to build a better future for herself and her community through education. She is currently in her third year at the University of South-East Asia, studying a BA in English as a Foreign Language with the dream of becoming an English teacher – a dream she has held since childhood. She enjoys her course for the friendships, new experiences, and shared learning it brings. The Dana Asia scholarship has made a tremendous difference in her life by making university possible and motivating her to study hard to reach her goals. Sopith dreams of becoming a professional English teacher, supporting her family, and helping underprivileged children in her village gain access to education, contributing to the development of her community.

“Dana Asia’s support has given me the chance to study and follow my dream of becoming an English teacher. One day, I want to help poor children in my village and give them the same opportunity to learn that I was given.”
