TAKE ACTION CYCLE FOR RECYCLING

Total funds raised so far.

Cycle for Recycling is a cycling challenge that raises funds for community-led plastic waste solutions in the Philippines.

Tough rides. Big impact.

Dana Asia’s CEO Duncan is passionate about two things: cycling and plastic waste reduction. Each year, he combines these passions by taking on a gruelling cycling challenge to raise funds for projects in the Philippines that directly reduce and recycle plastic waste. So far, he has cycled over 3,650km and raised over AU$100,000. And he’s still going!

Why it matters

Plastic waste is a major threat in vulnerable communities in the Philippines. Underdeveloped waste services, low awareness about environmental issues, and a lack of green infrastructure mean plastic pollution keeps piling up, harming people, ecosystems, and local economies.

But there’s hope. Cycle for Recycling raises funds to tackle these issues head-on.

  • The Philippines is the largest contributor of plastic waste to the ocean, responsible for around 36% of all global ocean plastic pollution. (Our World in Data)
  • More than 2.7 million tonnes of plastic waste are generated annually in the Philippines but only 28% is collected for recycling or disposal. (World Bank)
  • Around 164 million sachets are consumed daily, making single-use plastics a massive barrier to sustainability. (GAIA)

It’s not just a ride – it’s a movement

100% of Cycle for Recycling funds go towards:

Victoria Hive

A recycling facility that turns plastic waste into eco building materials, providing employment opportunities while promoting the circular economy.

Green microfinance

through “eco sari-sari store” loans to help small shop owners replace common single-use sachets with affordable refill products.

Eco Store social business

community-run zero-waste stores supplying individuals and other eco-friendly businesses with basic household items without plastic packaging.

The 3-year impact

60 tonnes of plastic waste collected and recycled

into sustainable building materials by the Victoria Hive to transform house waste management.

1.5 tonnes of plastic prevented

through community-run eco store social businesses that provide low-cost basic goods to urban poor community members without plastic packaging.

200,000 single-use sachets replaced

in eco sari-sari stores by bulk-purchase refill products supplied by eco wholesalers to complete the green supply chain.
