Outgrower: Meet Kam Soy

June, 2024

Kam Soy lives with her husband and their young child in a rural community where most households rely on rice farming. Before joining the KJC Outgrower program, she worked in the city as a body massage therapist though the work fluctuated with the tourist market. When KJC Farm first launched, her husband underwent training and was employed as a farmer. He now works as the supervisor in the hatching room. She received a US$2,000 loan and training to launch her outgrower business in June 2024 and since then, Kam Soy has achieved an average survival rate of 88% of chickens to point-of-sale, giving her an average US$238 per cycle. This translates to a 26% increase in her household income. This income has allowed her to save for her family’s future, including building a new house and supporting her child’s future education. She hopes to expand her poultry business by increasing shed capacity to 1,000 chickens, further boosting income and securing a stable livelihood.

“This project has given me a steady income and the chance to save for my family’s future. I want to grow my business so I can build a home and support my child’s education.”
