Outgrower: Meet Prom Lon
May, 2023Ms. Prom Lon, 51, lives with her husband and two children in Soung Village, a rural community where most families rely on rice farming, fishing, or raising a few chickens. Her husband works in construction labour, earning around $200–230 per month, but the income is irregular. As a housewife, Prom Lon cares for her family and has previously participated in short-term poultry training at KJC Farm. She joined the poultry outgrower project in May 2023 and received a US$2,000 loan and training to establish her small business. Since launch, she has been achieving consistently good results raising around 500 chickens per cycle. As a result of her hard work, she is able to earn around US$190 per batch and increase her household income by 27%. The additional income has allowed her to support her children’s schooling, buy materials and books, and set aside some savings. Prom Lon is motivated to continue, aiming to improve her survival rates and performance to become a successful and skilled farmer.

“My business has given me a reliable income to support my children’s education and daily needs, and I am determined to improve and become a better farmer.”
